Favorite Places: Arches National Park

grand-tetons-barn-2wtmkThis past week we visited a national park we’ve never been to before:  Arches National Park. I’m so glad we were finally able to see it. This amazing park full of sculptured rock is located in eastern Utah.

Arch1

Much of the park can be seen from the car but you’ll want to also walk the trails.

Arch2

According to the park’s brochure, the rocky formations are the result of

“water, and  ice, extreme temperatures, and underground salt movement.”

Arch3

It’s hard to believe this place. Some of the formations, like the one above,

look like they have been sculpted by human hands.

Arch4
Many of the rocks boggle the imagination. This rock (above) looks

as if it might fall over at any minute.
Arch5

This is the place to be for geologists or aspiring geologists.

Arch6

I’m sorry we never brought our kids here when they were school-age. They would have loved trying to understand the mystery of the holes in the giant rock formations. I have two granddaughters who are such rock-hounds. I’d like to get them out here. If you’ve ever been here, I’m sure you’ll agree this is a very unusual landscape .

Join me again next Sunday when we’ll visit another Favorite Place.
