This past week we visited a national park we’ve never been to before: Arches National Park. I’m so glad we were finally able to see it. This amazing park full of sculptured rock is located in eastern Utah.

Much of the park can be seen from the car but you’ll want to also walk the trails.

According to the park’s brochure, the rocky formations are the result of
“water, and ice, extreme temperatures, and underground salt movement.”
It’s hard to believe this place. Some of the formations, like the one above,
look like they have been sculpted by human hands.

Many of the rocks boggle the imagination. This rock (above) looks
as if it might fall over at any minute.

This is the place to be for geologists or aspiring geologists.

I’m sorry we never brought our kids here when they were school-age. They would have loved trying to understand the mystery of the holes in the giant rock formations. I have two granddaughters who are such rock-hounds. I’d like to get them out here. If you’ve ever been here, I’m sure you’ll agree this is a very unusual landscape .
Join me again next Sunday when we’ll visit another Favorite Place.

this is also one of my favorite places–I only live a hop, skip and a jump away from it. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.
I love the desert colors. Isn’t Arches amazing?
We did not get to Arches when we were in Utah so I appreciate seeing your pictures. That third picture is really amazing!
So dramatic – I’d love to go there.
Wow that sure looks like an awesome place and a place I would like to go should I ever get to Utah!
Those rock formations are amazing! How many national parks have you visited?
Hi Margot; glad to see you made it to Oregon and hope the weather is cooperating! Rain or sunshine, you’ll have fun with those special grandkids (and their parents too of course).
I loved those pictures of Arches. It is one of our favorite national parks as well. We had a great visilt there and Canyonlands together. Our Colorado son and dil have a Jeep; they met us there and we had some awesome trail rides.
Quite a contrast from there to Oregon isn’t it?
So cool. I thought maybe that third one was the Three Wisemen. Love it.
I’ve always wanted to go here … and now I want to go even more. Did I ever mention to you how great I think it is that you are traveling and living in this way? It is fun to see where you end up every week.
I love this park. I really need to travel to the parks more.
