Favorite Places: Yosemite in the Rain

grand-tetons-barn-2wtmkThis is a weekly feature in which I share some of the places we have visited as we travel. Last week my very nice son, Christopher, drove my mother, Genevieve and I to Yosemite. I’ve been there many times over the last fifty years, but I don’t recall ever being there in the rain. It was absolutely stunning.

There was considerable controlled burning taking place in the south end of the park. Lots of firemen with shovels could be seen along with the smoke. As we drove the road leading up to Glacier Point we saw patches of snow in among the trees, plus the last few blossoms on the dogwood trees. It made for an unusual but beautiful Spring combination.

My mother, who is 89, has entered the early stages of dementia. She has had a real longing to see Yosemite, a place that holds many happy memories for her. Unfortunately, she doesn’t remember being there in the last twenty years in spite of the fact that we’ve all taken her there numerous times. Other family members told us to be sure to take a picture of her while we were there. We hope it will remind her of this visit. Here is mom/grandmom, honestly, at Yosemite.

Join me next Sunday when we’ll look at another one of our Favorite Places. I’ll show you some pictures we took down at the beach, the Pacific beach, that is.
