The Good Old Songs

There is nothing like hearing an old song to take me back in time. I can hear Bob Dylan singing “My, my, Miss American Pie” and I am riding in a 1954 Chevrolet with all the windows rolled down, my hair is blowing all over the place. I’m sure you have the same kinds of memories.

I was thinking about some of my favorites the other day and thought I’d give you a little quiz. See if you can match the song title on the left with the singer on the right. Don’t look now but the answers are down below.

Song Title__________________________Singer or Group
1. A Fire I Can’t Put Out                      a.  Paul Anka
2. Don’t Worry Baby                            b.  Bob Dylan
3. What’s Love Got to Do With It           c.  Roy Orbison
4. Diana                                             d.  Simon & Garfunkel
5. Oh, Pretty Woman                            e.  George Strait
6. Rocky Mountain High                        f.  Beach Boys
7. Bridge Over Troubled Water               g. Tina Turner
8. Knockin On Heaven’s Door                 h.  John Denver

old-car

Here are the answers: 1. e 2. f 3. g 4. a 5. c 6. h 7. d 8. b

How did you do?

  • 4 or less = You are either too young, you weren’t listening or your memory is shot
  • 5 out of 8 = Nice Job – You’ve been listening to your radio
  • 6 out of 8 = Very Good – You listened to the radio while doing your homework
  • 7 out of 8 = Excellent – I think you bought a lot of records and they’re now antiques
  • All 8 correct = You either have an extremely good memory or you’re way too old

Thanks for playing a long.

  • I missed two because I didn’t listen to Paul Anka or George Strait and I had to guess and I guessed wrong!!

I actually did not listen to radio when doing homework, but used to fall asleep with the transistor radio under my pillow. I grew up listening to CKLW “Home of the Motown Sound”!

  • I’m way too old – I got them all right. I got 1 and 2 by the process of elimination, but I guessed right.

  • I didn’t do too well… not because I didn’t recognize the songs… or recognize the artist… I just can’t remember who did what.

I think I fit in that “memory shot” category. I keep denying that my mind is fading until I come up against something like this.

Yup! I’m a Nana along with you. Too young to be a grandma.. ya know!

Even the kids in the neighborhood call me Nana. It’s a name I’ve become a custom to.

  • Oh, dear! I got them all right :( I got George Strait by process of elimination … I don’t know him or that song! I did have Simon and Garfunkel on LPs, but must have just heard the others on the radio. I don’t have any of my old albums (or cassettes). CDs will probably be retired next!

  • Thank you for making me feel young today :) I only knew 2!

  • Cerrin

Well I think my love of music paid off. By process of elimination I got the last one correct. :D I do admit I sang most of the songs as I was thinking of who sang what. Which was scarier that I knew the words to most of the songs too…So if I follow your logic I am too old…So how does that make you feel being my MOTHER and all. :D
