Review and Disclosure Policy

Review Policy Regarding Books:

I’m a lifelong reader and by now I know what I like and what I don’t like in books. The perfect read for me involves a compelling, well-written story about people, their problems and how they conquered or solved those problems. The genres that make me happy are general fiction, mysteries and thrillers (cozy, not gory), romantic suspense, books featuring food (fiction and non-fiction), memoirs, classics and historical fiction (especially American Westerns).

For a better idea of the kinds of books I like, check my Book List to see what I’ve already read. I don’t like anything paranormal so I will skip the vampire, werewolf and ghosty books. I also don’t like science fiction, horror, erotica, self-help, health and fitness, and I’ve left the business books behind in my other life.

I’m happy to accept Advanced Reading and/or Review Copies of books. I try to limit the number I receive as there is just so much time in a day and I can’t spend all 24 hours reading. I’ve tried. If I accept a book, I promise to read and review it on this blog. I can’t promise a favorable review but if the book matches my favorite reads the chances are better for a good review. I also post some of my reviews on Amazon, Library Thing and Goodreads.

I do not sell my Advanced Reader Copies (ARC) or any of the books I receive free. I pass them on to others who will enjoy them as much as I have. Most of my books (including those I purchase) go to the public library. The ARCs are passed on to a family member, friend or fellow blogger.

Disclosure Statement:

The books or other products on this blog are ones I’ve purchased or they are gifts from my family and friends. I’m also a big believer in using the public library. If a book comes to me from an author, publisher, publicist, or other outside source, I will tell you about it.

I am also an Amazon Associate. That means that if you click through from my blog to Amazon and purchase a book, I will receive a percentage of the sale (4%). So far, I haven’t earned enough to buy a cheap paperback book but, hey, if I keep doing this for, say ten years, I might get there.

This blog is for my own entertainment. It’s a fun hobby. I’m not trying to make money on this blog and I have no intention of conning someone into purchasing products they don’t want. I’ve lived a life that has been primarily based on honesty and openness. And, I like to believe the people who read my blog are also filled with integrity. Unfortunately, the Federal Trade Commission requires that I disclose the source of all books and products mentioned on this blog. I apologize for them.

  • Hi Margot,

I’m not sure where I have met you, but I’m guessing it was on Facebook. I found you had visited my blog, so decided to try out your website and blog. It’s very interesting.

One thing I noticed is that you review books. I write mystery romances, and if you would be willing to review my latest book, Addiction, I would be happy to send you the ARC.

I think it’s wonderful that you and your husband can read the same book together. My hubby has macular degeneration and has only pheripheral vision in his right eye so it puts a lot of strain on the one eye when he reads.

I’m going to look around some more at your site.

Thank you for visiting my blog. At the sites below you can read excerpts of ADDICTION to see if you would be interested in reading it.

  • Hi Margot. Hope you and your daughter are having a fun roadtrip. I just ordered a KINDLE! Tried to do it through your site, since you were the one whose recommendation finally talked me into it ;>) — not sure it worked because whenever I found a link to Amazon on your site it took me to a book. Finally I just went from the book to the Kindle page. Maybe if it worked you can buy another page of a paperback ;>).

Anyway, I enjoyed reading some of your older posts (like this one) which I hadn’t seen before.

  • Hi Margot,

Are you accepting books for review at the moment? Best wishes, Stephanie Zia

  • Hi, Margot!
It was your name. ‘Joyfully Retired’ that attracted my attention from the lists and lists of reviewers. Good choice! Also, I must confess, your love of westerns.
Raised on a ranch in Southern Alberta, ‘westerns’ are very close to my heart. (I do acknowledge an affinity for scifi and fantasy, however – sorry! Call it a weakness . . .)
I will be following your reviews. I like the way you think.
If you need a change of pace, give my blog a read. Or my website!
Looking forward to many great blogs together!

  • Hello Margot!
I found you on an eBook review site and was wonderfully pleased that you enjoy westerns. While I write in several genres, I am currently working on the forth in a western series. The first of the bunch, DEER RUN TRAIL, is now available as an eBook, and soon as an audio book. I was raised by a man born in the 1800’s and worked on a cattle ranch in my youth, so the calling has always been there but I have only recently succumbed. It seems the current trend in the genre requires ripped bodices and shirtless cowboys. I suspect Louis L’amour is spinning in his grave.

At any rate, I would love you to review my book. You can find it, cover art, a synopsis, and the first three chapters on my website at http://www.ironbear-ebooks.com. Should you want to continue with the novel, I’ll be happy to provide a Smashwords coupon. Thank you for your consideration.

    All best,
    David Lewis
