Wondrous Words #224
It’s Wednesday and time to tell you about the Wondrous Words I’ve found this week. My new-to-me words this week came courtesy of the New York Times. I was reading a TV review (here) and found these words:
1. lugubrious: After so many lugubrious turns, “Breaking Bad” came to an end on Sunday on an almost uplifting note.
Lugubrious is an adjective meaning looking or sounding sad and dismal.
2. ricin: The all-important ricin, like Chekhov’s gun, had to actually be put to use at long last.
Ricin is a highly toxic protein obtained from the pressed seeds of the castor-oil plant.
