Happy Birthday Laura Ingalls Wilder

LauraIngallsWilderThe author of the well-loved children’s books was born February 7th, 146 years ago. The Little House In the Big Woods, On the Banks of Plum Creek and Little House on the Prairie are on my list of lifetime favorites. I’m know my children and I will never forget that very long winter we read The Long Winter.

No one knows how many children became life-long readers because of the adventure and fun found in Mrs. Wilder’s books. For all those hours of pleasure she gave to all of us, join me in saying thank you and Happy Birthday to Laura Ingals Wilder.

  • I loved those books too. It’s a shame that her daughter claimed, after her mother’s death, that she had taken terribly written stories and rewrote them to make them readable. Actually, she did edit them and used her contacts in the publishing world to get them published. How could she take away the love and work her mother put into writing those stories? Reminds me of the blond girl in the books who was so mean and loved to tell on everyone. Can’t think of her name right now.

  • I loved her books and miss the innocence of those days!!! Reading the Long Winter during a blizzard is a great way to get a feeling for what they went through, except it lasted for months for them!
