Diane at Bibliophile By the Sea asks us to share the first paragraph of a book we are reading. As you can see it’s called First Chapter, First Paragraph Tuesday Intros. As readers we are often captivated or turned away by that first paragraph or two. Let’s see what you think about the first paragraph of my current read.
I’m reading a novel by one of my favorite authors, John Grisham. Here’s how it begin:
The tumor in my father’s pancreas was removed last week in an operation that lasted five hours and was more difficult than his surgeons had expected. Afterward, they delivererd there grim news that most people in his condition could not expect to live for more than ninety days. Since I knew nothing of the surgery or the tumor, I was not there when he was given his death sentenve. Communication is not a priority with my father. Ten years ago he divorced one wife and had found another before word filtered down to me.
What do you think?
Would you keep on reading?

Even though its a sad intro, I liked it a lot. I actually read this one and thought it was good, so hope you enjoy it. Thanks for joining in Margot.
No matter what the opening, I know Mr. BFR would keep reading.
I’d keep reading and I mean to read it–I’ve got it on my kindle.
This book has been on my radar forever. Thanks for the reminder that I want to read it.
Sounds fantastic and is actually a book that I wanted to read last year!
I’d keep going on this one.
Calico Joe sounds like an interesting character. I’d keep reading.
I would and I did and I enjoyed it! I marvel at John Grisham’s talent and I love when he comes out with one of his “different” books…. apparently from what I’ve read some of his fans are disappointed when he ventures into another genre. But I like it!
