What’s new in my world?

Hi Everyone

I’m still alive and doing fine. I’ve had a bad case of the sluggies. I feel sluggish when it comes to my online life. First it was my hand, but now I’m blaming the weather (105 yesterday). Primarily, I just want to read. Of course, then I get behind on writing reviews. Oh well. Don’t worry, I’ll get over my case of the sluggies.

We have been out doing things. One thing both my husband and I have become involved in is a Senior Writing Proect. The project is part of the senior center in nearby Healdsburg. We participate in both a memoir group and a creative writing group.

We joined about six months ago but the group has been going for about two years. They have done so well that they just published a book of their work. We attended the launch party last Saturday. It was so much fun hearing the writers share some of their stories and getting autographs. I’ll share more about the book and this group later this week.

Here in this little town of Windsor they hosted a Hot Air Balloon event this weekend. It all happens early in the morning – 5 to 7 am – so you really have to be motivated. Fortunately, I woke up early this morning, but as I came out the door there were already two balloons floating by.

The balloons launch in a park about two miles away so our son’s back deck is the perfect viewing area. Although there are thirty balloons involved, they don’t all go up at once. Three was the most I could capture at one time. I especially love the specially shaped balloons. The one above, according to the program, is called Party Panda. I think it looks more like a cartoon dog. There’s another one that looks like Nemo that was so cute. I hope you have a chance to see a Balloon Fest someday. It’s an amazing sight.

School finished last week for my eldest daughter and her two daughters. I know they are happy to have a well-earned vacation. They are planning to come from Portland and visit in a few weeks. I’m very excited about that.

I hope everything is going well in your world. Here in my world I’ll keep working on my sluggies.

  • Aw, I think everyone experiences the sluggies from time to time. In the past I kept a few reviews (of books I’d purchased) to post when I felt that way. It helped to just have something to post. But who’s to say you can’t just put the “gone fishing” sign up on your blog once in a while?!!
What fun to see those balloons. Love the pics. And I love the idea of the writers group.

  • I totally understand the sluggies since I’m behind in my writing right now. At the balloon festival here, the balloons launch early in the morning and then again in the evening.

Thanks for posting the pictures. I love seeing that you are having such a great time.

  • Hot air balloons used to land in the farm field behind our neighbor’s house across the street. While we all thought it was incredible, our neighbor’s poor dog was always so petrified of that loud swooshing noise of the flame. There was a Wizard of Oz one that I loved to watch. Some day I’m going to go up for a ride in one myself. That would cure the sluggies, wouldn’t it!

I think everyone experiences the sluggies not and then. Just do what you need/want/feel comfortable with doing – we’ll all be here still. Enjoy your writing group.

Hey Sis…I am enjoying the Balloon Fest…what a delight for you to be there with an on-site experience!!! The “sluggies” that you are walking through?…you just need the updated translation from the country lingo to the more attuned vocabulary that my sister would use…ready? “sluggies” is just another phase for…. “JOYFULLY RETIRED”. It is not a negative. rather just a different season or spin of time. bunches of love to you as you ENJOY the sluggies…..kaye the sister

  • I’m using our current roadtrip as an excuse for my blogging inertia! I’m taking a lot of pictures and will probably still be blogging about Colorado when we’re ready to leave Oregon next fall ….. And as for Joyfully Retired, maybe if you don’t blog about what you’re reading for a while, I’ll have time to catch up on the books I’ve already put on my TBR list as a result of your reviews ;>).

  • I have found that taking time away works for me!!! Enjoy your summer and write when you want to!! Love those balloons!!

  • Sluggies happen. Sometimes online life must take a backseat to the real world :)
I’ve never seen a gun shaped hot air balloon. What fun!

  • I love balloons! You need to take a ride in one, if you haven’t. Your writing group sounds great.

  • I’ve read many books that I did not review and I try not to feel guilty about that. After all, before I started blogging, I read books without putting my thoughts online! Enjoy your memoir and creative writing. Sounds like fun.
