Thanks for stopping by to check on my Wondrous Words. I love to find words in my reading but this week my new-to-me words came from – would you believe it? – television.
1. recidivism: I found this first word while watching the local news out of San Francisco. The reporter was showing an underwater welding program being taught to prisoners. They talked about how the rate of recidivism was lower for prisoners who had learned new trade skills.
Recidivism means a convicted criminal who reoffends, especially repeatedly.
2. rolfing: On an NCIS episode last week Abby told Jethrow that she was rolfing the autopsy assistant. Jethrow looked puzzled and then I could see he was assuming rolfing meant sex. Jethrow was wrong.
Rolfing is a massage technique aimed at the vertical realignment of the body.

That’s so funny about rolfing!
I iunderstand rcidivism because we use in French the word récidive to say the same things. I think that rolfing would be nice today for my poor back !
I’m impressed that you found words on TV! I thought rolfing might have meant rolling on the floor or something for some reason.
Both are new to me. I love NCIS!! I watch them all, but my favorite is NCIS~LA
We saw that NCIS episode and laughed (but we knew what rolfing is — I used to get massages occasionally when I worked, but was never brave enough to do the rolfing one, although it was offered by my therapist).
I actually knew both those words but I find a few words from television I don’t know and I never think to look them up.
I actually knew both of those words – not sure what that says about me though
I knew #1….but the other was a new one for me!
Hi Margot,
I knew the first word, but if someone told me they were ‘rolfing’ someone, I would be running for the hills I think!!
I went away and looked it up for myself and I have to say that it sounds extremely painful and seems to have no real scientific basis.
Not something that I would allow anyone to try on me, sounds as though it would do more harm than good.
The word did make me laugh though!
These are the really wondrous word means i am never come across these words. Thanks for sharing these words.
