Hallmark Cards created a whole section of cards for people like me – the ones that say,
“Sorry, I missed your birthday.”
Yes, I’m a day late, but yesterday marked the 120th anniversary of Agatha Christie’s birth. Since her writings have given my life so many hours of pleasure, I’d like to publicly say,
Happy Birthday, Dame Agatha, even if I am a day late.
So many of Ms. Christie’s admirers around the world are celebrating this important event. The official website, AgathaChristie.com, is devoting this entire week to the celebration with all sorts of activities.
There is, of course, cake. This is not just any cake. It’s a special one, created by Jane Asher, called Delicious Death. For those of you who are familiar with A Murder Is Announced (Miss Marple), you will recognize the reference that inspired this cake’s name and flavor. For the recipe and more about the cake, go here.
Kerrie of Mysteries In Paradise is sponsoring a month-long celebration of Ms. Christie’s 120 years. Each day during September there is a special commemoration of Agatha Christie’s work. It’s a blog tour of blogs that regularly cover her publications. For a complete listing of all the stops on the tour, visit Kerrie’s blog HERE. (Kerrie is the sponsor of the Agatha Christie Reading Challenge of which I am a participant.)
I will be one of the stops on the tour, on September 28th. You may recall that last year I was fortunate enough to snag an Interview with Miss Marple. Since then, she and I have become good friends and now Jane has invited me to attend one of her special Tuesday Night Murder Club meetings. I’ll be sharing with you all the goings-on that take place there. I am very curious. You won’t want to miss what I find out.
And finally, one more thing you may have missed yesterday. Everywhere, except in the US, Google did one of their famous Google-Doodles in honor of Agatha Christie’s 120 years. Here it is, spelling out Google with classic Christie clues and memorabilia.

Wonder why we missed out on the Google Doodles…
oooh that cake cooks yummy
wow, How come the Google Doodle wasn’t here? We love AG just as much as anyone! I love the “G” just made me picture Poirot! B&N mystery book club has been doing a tribute to Agatha all month. Becke Davis, the moderator has some fabulous info on her site.
I haven’t read an AC mystery in years but I love the Masterpiece Theater episodes with Hercule Poirot. My husband calls them “those dumb English things” but then he’s a machinist. Different strokes for different folks, right?
What a fabulous looking cake! The recipe sounds a bit like sachertorte, and there’s nothing wrong with that! I may have to try it!
Fun. I’m bookmarking this post so I can check out the links later when we have a better connection. (Hazards of a roadtrip!)
I missed that Google Doodle and I love it!!
I missed the Google Doodles too! Because of you I really think I will join the Agatha Christie challenge. I went to out library sale and filled up a huge bag for $3 and threw in quite a few Christie books
I have missed all the Christie commotion this month. Thanks for pointing out her birthday and all the fun activities. I have been a huge Christie fan for years.
