My Blogging Vacation Is Over

Hi everyone!

I’m back from my Southern California “adventure.” I would have preferred the adventure was a trip to Disneyland. Instead, I helped move my mom into a senior apartment complex. The actual move went very well but the adjustment, for her, will take a few more weeks. I also helped clear out Mom’s house. Some of the stuff in the house has been there for multiple decades. For instance, I found handkerchiefs she collected nearly eighty years ago!! One of these days I’ll share the experience with you of how we found the perfect place for Mom.

Needless to say, the past two weeks have been emotionally exhausting. I barely turned my laptop on to check my email. I had no time to read blogs. I actually read very little of anything in that time period. It really bothered me. I was afraid I was losing my reading mojo. I couldn’t do a crossword puzzle either. The only brain activity I was able to sustain was Sudoku puzzles. I don’t know what that says about me.

My wonderful husband helped me escape two times to the movies. We saw Eat, Pray, Love and I thought it was as good as the book. I was worried that Julia Roberts wouldn’t live up to my imagination of Elizabeth Gilbert but, she did great. She wasn’t movie-starish at all and I liked the scenery and most of the other characters.

We also saw The American with George Clooney. The plot was slow and rather depressing. But, it wasn’t completely bad. It was, after all, George Clooney, so who cares. For those few hours at the movies I completely forgot about my problems with my mother.

So now I’m back in Northern California and I’m ready to start blogging again. I’m looking forward to catching up with all my blogging friends too. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and good wishes. It made a difference.

  • Sometimes it is hard but if there is no other options, somethings have to be done. Your mom will be well looked after, no doubt.

Glad to see you back. You were missed..

  • Welcome home! We missed you. I helped my mom clear out her mom’s house and I know how physically and emotionally draining it can be. So happy your mom is in a great place and you can relax a bit.

  • I’m glad to see the move went well. I’ll pray for a speedy adjustment for your mother. I’ve missed you, so I’m glad to see you’re back!

YEA! so happy that you’re back. It’s been hard to deal with the loss of your daily updates… What you did in So Cal wasn’t easy and I really wish i could have shared the work load. Grams is lucky to have such devoted & loving children (grand, great grand, etc). I do hope someone saved those handkerchiefs! (I have a small collection myself.)

  • Welcome home, Margot. I too hope your mother will adjust well to her new home; it’s hard on everyone. I missed your blog but certainly understood. And I had wondered about those two movies, so now I know – and I agree, when George Clooney is in it, who cares?

  • Welcome home! I’ll bet you need a major rest after such a trip! Glad to have you back!!!

  • Welcome back. I can imagine it must be a hard thing to do. I was only a teenager when my mother cleaned her mother’s house, but I do remember that it wasn’t that much fun. Also, I am still sad about my father’s death last December, so something like this makes me sad to read. But I am sure it will go well, might just take some time. But your mother is well looked after like some of the above posters say.

  • Welcome home! We missed you. It’s really hard to go through what you just did with your mom. I think not being able to read is pretty normal at a time like that. It’ll all come back to you, don’t worry ;>)

  • I’m glad you’re back and hope your mum with feel more settled soon. It’s one of the hardest and saddest things to do. I know what it’s like and completely understand why you couldn’t read, but your reading mojo will come back. Take care of yourself now.

  • Welcome back, Margot! I can only imagine a little bit what all you have experienced these past few weeks and I can totally understand the overwhelming mental exhaustion that results. Sudako is my favorite way to do something mentally challenging while at the same time does not tax my emotions.

I hope you are able to rest and relax for a few days before you start the ‘life’ routine.

  • Welcome back! Sometimes the brain needs the movies more than books :)

  • I’m sure your emotional exhaustion was hard to deal with at times. There was so much history and memories contained within your mother’s home. I thought of you often and am glad that you’re back online!

  • Now you can give your emotions a vacation – they were focused where they needed to be with your mom’s world and that’s why your brain wasn’t in the mood to think. Movies are a great escape – candy for the eye – especially where George is involved ;0)

I am so glad your back. I hope you can stay relaxed. You were definitly missed.

  • So glad things went well on your mom’s move. I’m facing that eventually with my Mom, altho she is still well enough to be cleaning out her own stuff. My m=i=l is a different story and lives on other side of the country. It will probably take three dump trucks (after the undertaker) for us to dynamite her into a better setting. Sad, sad sad….

Welcome back to reading and blogging. Enjoy your well deserved rest.
