Last weekend, when I was still in Southern California (I’m back up north now), my nephew Bob took my mom and me to a great hotdog place. He knows how much I like to go to the places featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so off we went to visit Fab Hot Dog in Reseda, California.
Fab Hot Dogs is located right in the heart of San Fernando Valley. (Click their name to go to their website with map.) It’s a simple, unpretentious little restaurant. What makes this place so amazing is it’s fantastic menu. I didn’t count the exact number of different hotdogs but I will guess there are at least thirty.
They start with a quality weiner. The owner, Joe Fabricini, imports his dogs from back east. They are all-beef hotdogs in a natural casing. You can get your dogs steamed, grilled, or deep-fried.
Most of the menu items are named for various places around the country. For instance, I had the Manhattan Dog which is a bacon wrapped hot dog with sauerkraut, red onion sauce and mustard. There is also the Kansas City Dog, the Chicago Dog, the Carolina Slaw Dog, LA Street Dog, Sonora Dog and so on. They even have a double-dog burrito.
There were five of us and we each tried something different. In addition, we also tried their deep fried tater tots and the garlic fries. Everything we ate was delicious. They make a variety of their own sauces that have very unique flavors.
Below I’ve added the Fab Hot Dog clip from their appearance on Dinners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I’ll bet you can’t look at two minutes of this video without getting a craving for hotdogs.

I think I actually saw that episode! There’s nothing like a good hotdog and I like mine doctored up, so I bet I’d love that place!
I love, love, love Guy Fieri’s Triple D
While watching this week’s episode, I found a place for Geoff to visit when he has to travel to Omaha: they make their own ricotta cheese (in addition to italian sausage and marinara sauce).
I am not much of a hot dog person – but Geoff idolizes them. I will have to direct him to this Youtube video to give him some ideas of new ways to prepare a ‘dawg’ at home.
I think I gained 4 lbs. just watching this video! I love a chilli dog, but his chilli is wild. I think I’ll stick with my hot chilli that doesn’t have quite everything in the kitchen in it thank you.
Sigh. I’m not allowed to have hot dogs when I’m pregnant and there have been a few times I’ve really wanted one. This is one of those times
In Tucson, the Sonoran hot dog is the big rage. I am not a hot dog person though so I have never had one!
Good thing I dropped by in the afternoon instead of before breakfast when I usually visit my favs! I’d probably hate you if I’d seen this video when I was hungry. Cool that you got to go to one of Guy’s featured diners. Everybody I know loves that show.
I love Guy!!! I also love hot dogs. I eat them in a variety of ways. Sometimes I want one plain, sometimes with just ketchup or mustard, and sometimes with either hot dog sauce, coleslaw, chili or sauerkraut. YUM!!
Since I just came back from a camping weekend, I just had a couple of lunches of dogs and hot sausages. Oh yeah. I like chili dogs too.
I love all things deep fried…but I’ve never had a deep fried hot dog!!
That sounds great! I want a big fat hot dog with sourkraut an spicy mustard…I dont know anywhere arround here I can get that.
Man I am hungry now.
I am not a huge hot dog fan, but I actually like them steamed or boiled when I do have them. and he is totally right, in my opinion about them being all-beef hot dogs in a natural casing.
HIs reviews always make me want to eat at these spots. His honest enthusiasm is contagious & some of those hotdogs look too yummy for words…
