This year I’m watching a vineyard as it matures here in Sonoma County, California. It’s become one of my Favorite Places I’m sharing it’s development with you each month. My goal is to show you the changes each month as it go . . .
By the middle of June the plants are beginning to overflow their trellises. I’m just starting to learn that there are quite a variety of trellises used on the various vineyards and plants. I’m starting to gather pictures of them and I’ll share with you next month.
Here is how “my” vine looks in mid-June. We can barely see the mountains.
We had to look closely, but we discovered some very tiny grapes.
As we roam around looking at vineyards, I’ve noticed that each one tries to feature something different. I assume they are trying to attract visitors. Here at Matansas Creek Winery they have a lavender garden.
The part I like best is when I can stick my head down into the bush and take a deep breath.
Watch out for the bees! They love this garden too.
I hope you’ll join me again in a couple of weeks when I’ll show you another Favorite Place. Feel free to join in and share some of your Favorite Places. Leave a link in the comments and we’ll come visit you.

I notice an increasing number of places are starting lavender fields. I guess it gets lots of tourists. And I admit would go to the lavender festivals in a minute if I could get my husband to come!
Reminds me of the Girl Scouts. “Lavendar blue, dilly, dilly. Lavender green.” Remember?
It’s so exciting to see grapes on the vines!
So fun to live close to this vineyard! We love visiting , but never have been able to keep track on a day by day basis! Glad you added that sentence about the bees, otherwise I’d have worried about you sticking your head in this lovely plant — but such a lovely picture — I can almost smell it.
Pushed send too soon. I meant of course visiting vineyards in general, not “yours” which we’ve never seen! (There are a lot of nice vineyards and wineries in Lane Co. Oregon and on up the valley between Eugene and Portland.)
The lavender garden has me swooning!!! I love that smell. The grapes are so cute at this stage…I love watching them grow!!
I am going to have to try and plant some lavender. I love the smell of it.
Thanks for showing us the great pictures of the winery and all the vines.
Ah, wine. Can’t wait to have a glass after baby is born
I miss it. Love the lavender garden too.
Thanks for the update – I love “your” vine!
I love lavender! But I can’t believe how much your vine has grown. So lush.
Love lavender plants; so lovely!
