I’m keeping a careful eye on a vineyard about a mile from where we are staying in Sonoma Valley, California. It’s not a hardship. The area is beautiful in sight, smell and feel.
My goal is to share with you the progress of the wine as it grows on the vine.
Here’s the field last month – mid April.
And now the same field in mid-May. What a difference a month makes in the field.
I hope you’ll join me again next Sunday for another look at a Favorite Place. Please check the comment section to see if others have posted a Favorite Place. Please follow their links and say hello.

What a GREAT idea! I look forward to following the progress of the grape
Wow, they look so different now! Are there any grapes forming on the vines yet?
This is really great! I love seeing the progress of growing things… I have several small plants that are awaiting a soil-filled container, but they are growing beautifully in spite of my neglectful ways.
What is the aroma coming from these vines? Do they flower? I look forward to your updates.
So far there are no little grapes. I haven’t seen any blossoms either. I’m guessing that we may have missed the blossoms. The aroma from this whole field of grape vines is a mix of the smell of soil mixed with whatever gases come off green plants (like after the lawn is mowed), with just a hint of the ocean. The ocean smell might be in my head because I know it’s right on the other side of those mountains.
Let me know when it’s wine — I’ll be right over ;>)…. we had fun touring Oregon Vinyards and wineries last Fall — haven’t really looked at them much in Spring. Your pictures are lovely! I didn’t get a Favorite Place posted this Sunday, darn!
I think this should be fun to watch the progress of the vines!!!
I love that you posted this! Napa is my hometown and I always get homesick….love seeing the pics. Will you follow it right into the winery and into the barrels (and the glass)? -beth
Wow they are really pretty. I love seeing your favorite places. Makes me want to travel. OK I want to tavel anyway. But this helps me think of places to go.
Wow! Look at all that green! I can’t wait to see the progress.
