I’m back in Windsor, Northern California now. Back from Portland, Oregon where I’ve been visiting with my two granddaughters, my daughter and her husband. Since everyone was on Spring Break we had plenty of time to spend with each other. Here’s an updated picture of Q and Lou.
A friend of the family owns a beach house on the Oregon Coast and invited all of us down for a visit. Lucky for us, it only rained one day during our time there. We had lots of time to gather sea shells and sand dollars, play crossword puzzles and sudoku, read books and play games.
We also watched some good old movies. There is one old movie that has been my granddaughter’s favorite for a very long time: Singing In The Rain. Yes, they love it. The can sing along with all the songs. They each have favorite parts of the movie, but they both agree on the song and dance number, Moses Supposses. Do you remember that number? Danny Kaye (whoops – make that Donald O’Connor) and Gene Kelly sing and dance to –
Moses supposses his toeses are roses
But Moses supposses erroneously.
They tap dance all over the place while singing the silly song. I tried to get that part off of YouTube so you could see it here, but the embedding is disabled. Here’s the link, Moses Supposses, if you’d like a fun four minutes.
Most people would consider Singing In The Rain to be an adult movie, but our two young ones love it. We saw another movie that, I’m sure, is considered a kid’s movie, but many adults really like. I’m talking about Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs.
Inspired by a children’s book by Judi and Ron Barrett, this is the story of Flint Lockwood, a young scientist. Flint believes he has invented a process that can take water and turn it into food. He doesn’t have any success until his invention hits the atmosphere and then it starts raining hamburgers, hot dogs and other food stuff. The picture above shows what happens when it starts raining ice cream. I liked several of the characters – the policman (voice by Mr. T), Baby Brent, and the mayor who kept eating all the food.
Although both of these movies are favorites of my granddaughters, they make for fun viewing no matter what your age. Rent them even if you don’t have children to share them with.
What’s your favorite movie for children?

I just love the title of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. I want to see it for that reason alone!
We shared Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs withour grandsons when they were here – although the adults watched more of the movie while the little ones tried to avoid falling asleep. Also love Dancing in the Rain – my favorite part is “Good Morning” – Danny Kaye, Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly all dancing over the furniture. If I ever get granddaughters, I’ll have to share this movie with them.
Correction: Make that Donald O’Connor, not Danny Kaye.
Spring break with your beautiful granddaughters (and their parents) sounds like a delightful way to spend a week. Thanks for the movie recommendations – I haven’t seen either one of them.
I’m very jealous – I loved the Oregon coast when we visited briefly on our drive to Seattle one year. How lucky to have a nice spot to gather with family – and catch up on movies. I have heard of that book – didn’t realize they made it into a movie – which sounds very silly and really fun.
The kids are such cuties. I’m dying to go to oregon coast. You are so fortunate with all the traveling you get to do. Happy Easter!
I think I might like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Love the undated pic, they are adorable! And anytime I see a hat I’m a fan
I have heard good things about Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs!
I love Singing in the Rain and so want to see Cloud with a Chance of Meatballs!!
So glad you had fun with your adorable grandkids — and that it didn’t rain too much. Perfect.
Does Wizard of Oz” count? I still love that movie.
I love singing in the rain too. haven’t seen the other one, but thanks for the tip
Both of those movies are great!
Aunt Cerrin will be watching the muppet movies when they see me again lol
