Today is the day I share some of the Favorite Places we have visited in our travels around North America. Today I want to show you the place where my husband and I first camped together:
Tuttle Creek State Park, in Kansas. This is the field where we
first pitched our tent. Forty-seven years ago it didn’t look like this.
Isn’t it amazing how big trees can grow in what seems like a short time?
Here’s what the campground looks like today.
This is the main reason we came to camp here: The fishing
at the end of the dam’s spillway was, and still is, a great fishing spot.
I love it for the beauty of the hillsides, the wildflowers,
the birds, and the quiet. It’s a wonderful place to read.
I hope you’ll join me again next Sunday for more Favorite Places. If you’d like to join in, just grab the button at the top of this post, put it on your blog along with info about one of your Favorite Places. Come back and leave a link in the comment section and we’ll all come and visit you.

NORTHERN CALLIFORNIA
What a romantic little spot [that it used to be, anyway!]. I think I went camping once in my whole life. Arachnophobia prevented me from enjoying the outdoors!
[...] Feb 7th, 2010 by Margaret I’ve chosen a few photos taken last July of Edinburgh for today’s Favourite Places post. For more Favourite Places see Margot’s blog Joyfully Retired. [...]
We used to go camping a lot, mainly in Wales. We haven’t been back there for over 20 years!
My favourite place today is Edinburgh.
We do (or used to do) a lot of camping. I have never been to Tuttle Creek, but Mr. BFR is a big fisherman….
We not only used to go camping a lot, we began our life together in an 18′ camper. We lived in it for about 6 months until we bought a small house. I always said if we could get along in that tiny space, we could get along anywhere – and it has been true for 34 years now.
Margot — that’s a great post and makes me want to scan photos of a few of our old old favorite camping spots — better yet would be to go back to them! My favorite place this week is a rerun about Chief Crazy Horse monument -
That’s beautiful, but I’m not much for camping in a tent! You’re a better woman than I am.
This is beautiful! I don’t ever remember camping here as a kid… I do remember camping at Bennett Springs and fishing, although it always seemed so cold, didn’t we often go in March? Your Sunday Places are a wonderful mental vacation for me, and they help me start my Mondays in a more positive mindset. Thank you!
That is gorgeous!! When my hubby first approached me about fishing I was like eewww!! But now, I love it!
what a fun memory for you to associate with this place.
So beautiful! I’m not much of a camper myself – I’ll only camp if it’s on sand, which kind of limits our choices.
Love Tuttle Park in Ks. It’s beautiful. I’ve never heard of it.
I wonder if I have any pictures of what it used to look like. I am still waiting to get that scanner so I can start scanning pictures in.
What a beautiful spot. That first picture with the trees looks like it’s a movie set!
This is one of Dave’s favorite places also – water skiing and close to Manhattan!
