At the end of 2009 I wanted to look back and analyze the books I’d read. I gave up after looking at the 100+ books I’d read. I resolved to do better in 2010. Doing a monthly wrap-up post is my way of doing that. I had a fun and interesting time reading in January. In looking back, I was surprised.
Fiction: 3
Non-Fiction: 6
How did that happen? It didn’t feel like I was concentrating on non-fiction. There were so many interesting subjects: a graphic novel of a trip to Paris; Edith Wharton’s essays on writing fiction; a memoir of a little girl growing up in Africa; a well-known food writer’s advice on stocking your pantry and eating simple food; and essays and quotes from 100-year-olds and 10-year-olds.

My favorite new friend: Bobo from Don’t Let’s Go To the Dogs Tonight by Alexandra Fuller. I just wanted to hug her and adopt her as my granddaughter.

Great wrap-up. I love the idea of favorite character and your quick summary of where you were and what you read works well.
I agree about Bobo.
I love that “It’s a Wrap” button!
wow–100+
that’s amazing
9 books is a great way to start the year and good for you with the non fiction! I hadn’t really noticed you were reading less fiction.
Nice summary Margot. I know it is primarily for your own use but I enjoyed it just the same. I remember that photo that you shared when you reviewed the book – and the way you described it.
NF seems to go in spurts with me. I like to mix them in with F but sometimes I’ll read a great memoir or adventure piece and crave more reality.
That sound like a lovely month of books. And I think I might know what is steering you towards the non fiction. You’re what my mother calls a people-person. And you’re finding the most interesting people in the real world.
