Favorite Places: Canyonlands National Park

Sunday is the day I stop and tell you about one of the places we’ve visited while traveling around North America. We call them our Favorite Places. In 2009 we spent some time in Moab, Utah. From there you can visit quite a number of National Parks. We concentrated on Arches and Canyonlands. Canyonlands National Park is the one I want to tell you about today.

I was expecting something similar to the Grand Canyon.

Instead of one big canyon we found many small ones.

The canyons have been carved by the weather and

two major rivers –  the Green and the Colorado.

In this photo you can see the carvings that the weather has caused.

I thought it looked like a bombed out city.

It’s very dry and appears desolate.

There is very little vegetation. When I found some,

my eyes (and the camera) swiveled right to it.

There are some rock outcroppings that

reminded me of Arches National Park.

It’s a very dramatic place and the big sky adds to the drama.

It is definitely one of our Favorite Places from last year.

My husband took all of these pictures. For someone who

says he’s not good with a camera, I think he did great.

I hope you’ll join me again next Sunday for more Favorite Places. If you’d like to join in, just grab the button at the top of this post, put it on your blog along with info about one of your Favorite Places. Come back and leave a link in the comment section and we’ll all come and visit you.
