A Challenge For Two

My husband, Jay, and I have decided to join together on a reading challenge. We both love to read but we don’t normally read the same books. The ones we do read together we really enjoy. We need a little push so we are joining in with Tami and Dave of Just One More Thing.

Tami and Dave often read the same book, taking turns to read aloud. The Read Together Challenge doesn’t require that you do that. You can if you want. The challenge’s goal is to urge two-somes to share a book, have a discussion about it, and perhaps write a review.

The two-some doesn’t have to be between spouses. It could be two friends or a parent-child two-some. I did a couple of those with my daughters last year and plan to do that again in 2010. So, I’m going to have a couple of these Read Together Challenges going on. The first one will be wth Jay. He and I are going to commit to four books. We think we can do more but first we need to get started.

My second Read Together Challenge will be with other family members. For that I’m going to commit to eight books with these people: my Mom, my son Christopher (who just finished Blink by Malcom Gladwell), my two daughters, Candice and Cerrin, and my granddaughter Q. I have a hunch that the youngest granddaughter, Lou, may enter the challenge by the end of the year. Lou is the one who, out of all the family, loves books the most. She’s a few months away from five, but is just itching to read by herself. We’re not going to pressure her. We’ll just wait and see.

I’m leaving my options open for more Read Together two-somes. If you are looking for something to push you into reading a book with someone else, try this challenge. Visit Tami and Dave and get all the details. Go here.

  • How have I missed this one? This sounds terrific! I would love to try to read a book with my husband, and I am thinking that I have two daughters who might like to participate as well. I will definitely check out the details!

  • This does sound like a great challenge. My husband and I do end up “pushing” a lot of books onto each other. So far, however, he has been unsuccessful in pushing his endless math books onto me! :–)

  • This sounds fun! I missed this. Maybe this could push my niece into finally writing a review with me.

  • This is a wonderful challenge! I’ve always thought reading aloud to each other is such a romantic thing for a couple to do, but I just can’t convince my sweet hubby of that.

  • Margot – Thanks for passing along our challenge. We hope you enjoy participating, no matter who you share it with. I love the idea of doing it with multiple family members/friends.

Cant wait till I get my turn…Hopefuly after April 15th ;)

  • That is such a lovely idea! I hadn’t heard of that challenge either, but I think I’ll have to sign up.

  • This is so great, Margot! I’m looking forward to your reviews with your family.
Jason and I read a few books out loud to each other each year and we listen to lots together on car trips. I’m not sure how willing he is to do a joint review. I’ll have to see if I can convince him.

  • how fun! Mr. J and I just read “The Lost Symbol” together. But he doesn’t enjoy reading.

  • I may trick Andy into this challenge. If I tell him about it he will balk and ignore it. But if I wait for him to on his own decide to read something I recently have, then I can nag him into writing a review for it. When that happens, I’ll be sure to share the posts for Tami & Dave’s challenge!
