It’s Sunday and time to share with you a place we have seen that is still stuck in our memory. Mount Shasta in Norther California is just such a place. Last October we were traveling north along Interstate Highway 5 when we saw this.
“Did you see that? What was it?”
“I’m pretty sure it’s a mountain.”
“Oh, Lord, it’s HUGE!”
“Check the map and see if you can tell what it is.”
“It’s Mount Shasta!”
We’ve driven this stretch of highway before but
the weather has never allowed us to see it.
For mountain lovers like us, this was a real treat.
We went on our way past the mountain to our family in Oregon.
On the return trip we had our daughter,
Candice, and granddaughters, Q and Lou, with us.
The mountain was again visible so we could all enjoy it.
One of these years we are going to venture into the country closer to the mountain. There is said to be wonderful sights to see: clear mountain lakes, forests, rivers and streams (world-class fly-fishing), and little towns waiting to be explored. For snow lovers (not us) there is a various winter sports as well.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – I do enjoy looking at your favourite places and this one is beautiful. I’ve never heard of Mount Shastra – and the area sounds wonderful to explore.

PS my husband would have gone with us as well but we had the last two tickets and he insisted I went, even though he reads Rankin’s books!

It’s interesting how it sits all alone–the snow and blue of the mountain offers quite a contrast to the flat brown vista’s from the window of your vehicle.

How lucky is it that you saw Shasta both coming and going? I don’t know whether I enjoy your posts most when they’re about places we’ve seen (like this one) or places we haven’t been to (i.e. the North Pole). Just like the best travel programs — yours is always interesting!

We love to go visit the nieces up north, which always takes us by Mt. Shasta. Apparently there are extraterrestrial beings who live inside Mt. Shasta, but I think you can only see them on clear full moon nights. it’s the Mt. Fuji of Northern California.
What a gorgeous picture! I love mountains, too. When I was young, we used to drive to California from British Columbia for holidays every year, but I’m not sure if we ever passed by Mt. Shasta.
