Thanks to Kathy (Bermuda Onion) for hosting this weekly tribute to the new words we discover as we read. This week I am paying tribute to Jill at Rhapsody in Books. She has the best vocabulary around. Here are a couple of words from this month’s blog posts.
1. oeuvre: This is a story you’ll love reading every year, along with the rest of the Christmas oeuvre.
Oeuvre is a noun meaning the works of a painter, composer, or author regarded collectively : the complete oeuvre of Mozart. [Pronunciation: ˈœvrə] (This is from a blog post on December 8.)
2. minotory: Even the weather is minatory throughout.
Minatory is an adjective for expressing or conveying a threat : he is unlikely to be deterred by minatory finger-wagging. [Pronunciation:ˈminəˌtôrē] (from a blog post on December 23)
The posts on Rhapsody in Books are about more than new-to-me words. Jill has a fantastic sense of humor and has a wide range of interests in the world around her. Visit her regularly.

These are indeed very good words.
Here is my Wondrous Words Wednesday post!
How nice! But you don’t say where you are today!!!!!
I agree, Margot. Rhapsody in Books in one of the best book blogs I read. Her intelligence is evident but she’s very human and funny, and I learn something from every post.
Those are good words and how nice that you found them from a fellow blogger. Happy New Year!
P.S. I should add that “oeuvre” more accurately refers to the total work of one artist. But the usage has sort of broadened (or degenerated, some might say) to approximate that of “genre.”
I like oeuvre. Who knew?? It’s not easy to spell either. Thanks.

That’s a neat little tribute you’ve got there to Jill! I enjoy my time at her site too. And your sharing of new vocabulary with me each week. So creative to choose words from a blogger!
I thought oeuvre but I was wrong. Both of these words are great! Thanks for participating!
