I’m adding a few more challenges to my 2010 list. I’m feeling so confident about my ability to read deliberately and still have fun that I believe these additional challenges will round out my reading quite nicely.
First is the 451 Challenge, sponsored by Elizabeth at As Usual I Need More Bookshelves. This challenge is based on the list of books that have been mentioned in Elizabeth’s 451Friday feature. You may remember that I contributed to her list back in September. My goal is to read at least three to four books from this list. Visit Elizabeth for more details if you are interested.
Next is the 18th and 19th Century Women Writers Challenge, sponsored by Becky’s Book Blog. The goal is to read books written by women authors that were written and/or published between 1700 and 1900. The challenge is meant to encourage readers to try some of the classics. My goal is to read at least four to six books.
Third, I want to join The Global Challenge, sponsored by Dorte and Kerrie. The idea is to read books from around the world. I am planning to read one book from each of these countries: Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. This one will be a true stretch for me as I don’t normally read many books from countries other than the United States. I’m excited about stretching my reading wings for this one.
This fourth one, Take The Journey Challenge, is a little different from the other challenges. It doesn’t require a lot of additional books to be read. Rather, it’s keeping track of what I do read and accumulating points for them as well as other reading related activities. It’s a group formed on Book Blogs. Check the details here. It will be a challenge I welcome as I try to be oriented more toward better record keeping in 2010.
That should do it for the coming year. How are you doing on your challenge list?

I’d almost want to join the 18th and 19th C Women Writers Challenge just so I could post that button on my blog! I love that picture! (but can you imagine having to clean that place?!!)
As one who does not commit to challenges, I’m amazed that so many people do. I have enough trouble just reading a fraction of the books I’d like to read in a year. And I echo Rhapsody in Books – I hope whoever lived there had a host of maids to clean the place.
Hi Margot — I love reading about your challenges! And I like the idea of keeping better records of what you read; that is something I’ve played at doing over the years and never really figured out a good way. I was reading about the Support Your Local Library challenge and I think that is the one (and only) that I will try to figure out how to do.
I like that Journey one. I’ll spend some time with it when I’m home and see if I am up to it. If so, I’ll be sure to let you know so you can get some points for leading me to it!
I’m so excited to have you join us! I can’t wait to see which books you choose – I think that was the hardest part! =)
Good luck, Margot!
Oh my goodness! You are going to be busy, good luck. I fancy the gobal challenge as I don’t read widely in countries other than the UK and the US.
That’s a great mix of challenges. I hope you’ll consider my 451 list! I loved the 17th & 18th century challenge last year, but I’m skipping it this year to read some of the men! Good luck with everything!
