Last Monday I posted recipes for Shrimp Dip as part of the Progressive Dinner Party. (The recipe is here.) I will admit to being somewhat obsessive about my shrimp dip for several decades. I loved that dish and was so disappointed when I could no longer make it because they stopped making frozen shrimp soup.
My daughter Cerrin reminded me how much I loved the shrimp dip at O’Charley’s Restaurants. She did an internet search and found what I believe is the exact recipe used by O’Charleys. How can they do that? It seems like that should be a proprietary right of O’Charleys.
I decided to see how easy it is to get a “secret” recipe. Was I surprised! It was super easy. I typed in O’Charley’s Three Cheese Shrimp Dip on my Google search line and – boom – I had 12,900 results. Some of those results led nowhere but quite a few gave me the same recipe Cerrin passed on to me. I was impressed. Now I’m thinking about all those other dishes I like at various restaurants.
I may be the last one to know about Google’s ability to find secret recipes but I’m sharing it with you just in case you didn’t know either. You may want to try this too. Here’s a tip: Be sure to have the exact title of the recipe. It took me a while to figure that out.
And now, just in case you need one more shrimp dip recipe, here’s the “secret” recipe for:
O’Charley’s Three Cheese Shrimp Dip
Ingredients:
- 1 can small shrimp
- 6 ounces shredded mild cheddar cheese
- 6 ounces shredded Monterey jack cheese
- 8 ounces cream cheese-softened
- 1/4 cup sundried tomatoes -chopped
- 1/2 cup Romano, asiago, and parmesan cheese (in shaker can)
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together. Spread them in a casserole dish and bake at 325 degrees until bubbly. Watch closely, the cheese on the edges will burn before the middle is hot.

Mmmm….this dip sounds delicious and would make a great addition to our New Year’s Eve spread of appetizers.
You know, it makes sense, but I never thought about trying that. I can think of several recipes I’d like to have.
Funny! I’ve done searches and you’re right, you need the exact name of the recipe. This one looks good too!
I can always use one more shrimp dip recipe!
Hi Margot,
Sounds like a great recipe. My son finds recipes all the time like this, but you do need to know the exact name. He found B & K’s recipe for Spanish Hot Dogs. Tastes just like the ones you buy at the root beer stand. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend!

I remember when Mrs. Fields “secret recipe” was going all around the web but they denied it was the correct recipe. This one could be “authentic” or not but whichever, it looks pretty darned good!
I’ve never tried to look a secret recipe up. It seems so wrong, doesn’t it?
you had me at ‘bubbly’.
What a great tip! I’m happy for you – that you found a good substitute for the shrimp dip you used to make; three cheers for Cerrin’s detective skills!
YUM! This looks great. And don’t you just love that about the Internet??!! It’s how I tracked down the jalapeno potato casserole from Fleming’s Steakhouse.
What a great idea, Margot! Ward and I recently received a book of restaurant recipes to review – I hadn’t realized it was as easy as going on Google to get even more recipes!
