Favorite Places is a weekly feature here. I like to show you some of the places we’ve visited in our travels. Today it’s a little town in south central Indiana, located just a few miles off Interstate 64.
What most people come here for is the amusement and water park called Holiday World. The park is well know for it’s two world class wooden roller-coasters and other fun family entertainment.
Away from the park you’ll find a charming little town.
Drive around the few streets and you’ll see various replicas of the town’s namesake.
Above is a big one outside the lodge.
Here’s a cute one at the Santa Claus Museum.
Of course, you’d expect to see one at city hall.
My personal favorite is not a Santa at all. It’s this melting snowman.
It seems especially appropriate surrounded by
green grass on a hot sizzling day in the summer time.
The post office in Santa Claus, Indiana will be very busy the next few weeks. People from all over the place come here to mail their Christmas cards, just so the cards will show the Santa Claus postal mark.
So sometime, if you find yourself traveling through southern Indiana, check out the pleasant little village of Santa Claus.
I hope you’ll join me again next Sunday for more Favorite Places. If you’d like to join in, just grab the button at the top of this post, put it on your blog along with info about one of your Favorite Places. Come back and leave a link in the comment section and we’ll all come and visit you.

I love old fashioned wooden roller coasters so that amusement park looks like lots of fun to me.
This looks like a very cute place. You sure do find the unique places to stop with all of your road trips!
I would love to visit there around Christmas especially just to mail a letter to someone!!
I’m sure I’ve heard of this city before, but can’t seem to remember any details. I would love to receive a Christmas card sent from Santa Claus!
Children may write to Santa and he’ll send a personal reply. Simply mail children’s letters to: Santa Claus, PO Box 1, Santa Claus IN 47579.
Although Holiday World is closed till May, the town is hopping with Christmas events. Take a look here: http://legendaryplaces.org.
Merry Christmas!
Not only can you get the special 2009 Holiday Postmark from December 1 – 23 and write letters to the jolly man, but you can visit Santa Claus himself from America’s Christmas Hometown at the new Santa Claus Christmas Store AND Santa’s Candy Castle… only in Santa Claus, Indiana.
