Time to gather together all the new words I’ve learned this week. My words come from Corduroy Mansions/The Dog Who Came in from the Cold by Alexander McCall Smith. I’m following this fun serialized novel here.
1. concomitant: This could be demographic, as when there were simply not enough young mem to go round or it could be a concomitant other misfortune, of looks, perhaps, or attitude.
Concomitant means a phenomenon that naturally accompanies or follows something.
2. iconoclastic: Gillian had been incensed when a cousin of hers, a rather cynical woman who enjoyed making iconoclastic remarks, had suggested that many of the pictures of St. Sebastian’s martyrdom were thinly disguised exercises in homoerotic art.
Iconoclastic means attacking cherished beliefs or institutions.
3. durance: William was to be valued for that — for rescuing him from bondage from durance vile.
Durance means imprisonment or confinement.
Thanks to Kathy of Bermuda Onion’s Weblog for originating and hosting this fun weekly game. How did you do this week?

I loved the sentence that uses iconoclastic – sounds like a good “teaser” sentence!
Great words. I should have known iconoclastic, but I couldn’t define it. Maybe I’ll remember it now. Thanks for participating!
Durance is a new word for me. Thanks!
Here is my Wondrous Words Wednesday post!
These are some great words this week.
I’ve seen the first two, but wouldn’t have been able to define them. Maybe with enough repetition I could start remembering them!
I new one….sometimes I feel like I don’t read at all!!!
