Teaser Time: Memoirs of a Geisha
“Nothing, ma’am!” I said. And though she went on glaring at me, I was so shocked I couldn’t say anything further.
“What do you mean, nothing? You’d better answer me, you stupid little girl, or I’ll pour ink in your ear tonight while you’re sleeping!”
Those enticing sentences came from Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. For more Teaser Tuesday sentences, visit MizB at Should Be Reading.
Where am I? I’m in Japan with a young woman who has been sold into slavery. She goes on to become a famous geisha. The story is set in the 1920′s to 1930′s.

Oh my is all I can say. I really want to read this but it keeps getting lower on my TBR list for some reason.
Here is mine. http://teawithmarce.blogspot.com/2009/11/teaser-tuesday-gods-behaving-badly.html
Memoirs of a Geisha is a good book. I’ve read it. It’s hard to believe a man is the author.

Oh yes, what a brilliant book that was. I put it on a post the other day about good book group reads. Great teaser!

I really enjoyed this book – have you seen the movie yet?
I haven’t read this book though I hear good things about it. Ink in your ear doesn’t sound like a fun thing for sure.
What an intriguing message (and somewhat frightening!).
Lovely blog header!

I want to read this one. My daughter read it and said it was better than the movie–and I loved the movie. If you want to wander down my road I’m home.
Memoirs was an incredible book – and that is a very good teaser!
My teaser is here.
This was a sad book. Here is mine

An interesting teaser. Mine is HERE.
I liked this book when I read it a while ago.

I saw the movie – does that count?
The book was excellent. I was fearful of having the experience ruined by a lessor movie attempt. Though I imagine it looked beautiful – good or bad.
I loved this book!! I remember that line!! Enjoy and if you get a chance watch the movie too!!
I read Memoirs of a Geisha several years ago and LOVED it! I hope you do too!
I really enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha, particularly the descriptions of clothing and the setting.
Wonderful teaser!
I’ve heard the book is way better than the movie!

I read the memoirs of a geisha… really profound, a lush representation of a very different culture.
I loved the book too! The writing fleshed out the complex characters and sad yet beautiful story. The movie was OK, but when watched on our TV (DVD), it really didn’t do it justice.
I just loved this book! There were sure some mean people in this one. Did you get to the part about the eels and caves yet? That just made laugh out loud!
I read this awhile ago and just loved it. Hope you enjoyed it!
