A Teaser From: A Separate Country

Tuesday is the day I throw out a few sentences and try to tempt you into reading one of the books I’m reading. This is sponsored by MizB at Should Be Reading.

teasertuesdayThe children had been carted over to their grandmother’s apartment for the evening, and so the only sound I heard when I came back inside was the whisper and slip of Anna Marie descending the stairs in her gown. I could see her frowning at the dust, until she realized I was watching her, and then she smiled sweetly and let me take her hand.

Those sentences are from A Separate Country by Robert Hicks. It is a superb example of historical fiction.

tuesdaywhereareyouI’m using the same book to answer the question: It’s Tuesday, Where are you?

I’m in nineteenth century New Orleans after that terrible war. I’m with General Hood who was on the losing side. Now he’s trying to rebuild his life. He’s met and married a beautiful woman and they’re starting a family and a business.

Where is your reading taking you this week?
