I’ve been feeling very chatty lately. I want to do a post which is more like a personal letter. I was inspired and encouraged by Belle’s post last Saturday (Ms. Bookish). So, here goes. Here are some things going on with me:
- First, of course, we are still traveling around, meanduring toward the West Coast. Last week we were in Colorado. It’s such an amazingly beautiful part of America. (See some of my pictures tomorrow.) There was only one terrifying experience coming down from an 11,000 foot mountain pass. I closed my eyes and hung on. (it didn’t bother Jay)
- We just arrived in Moab, Utah. We’re getting ready to go see the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. We stopped for dinner at a nice place across from the campground and I had
something new. I ordered a Navajo Taco and this is what I got: On the bottom is a flat round bread called Navajo Bread (see picture), then a layer of chili, and then on top was a mound of chopped lettuce, tomatoes, olives and shredded cheese. It was served with picante sauce and sour cream. It was similar to a taco salad. I talked with our waitress (who I thought looked Navajo) about the bread. Although I was very sweet, she didn’t give me the recipe. She did explain how it was made. We bought some of the Navajo Bread as a take-out and had them warm with butter and honey. Great for breakfast with scrambles eggs? All very yummy. - I’m working on my plans for the Dewey Read-A-Thon. It was so much fun last April that I’m excited to repeat the event. We will be in Portland by then and I’m hoping to include my daughter and her family. They are all champion readers and I think it would be fun to make it into a party. We’ll see how that works out. I hope you are planning to join in as well.
- Last week I reviewed my first screenplay of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I was tickled with the response. I guess lots of people thought I would be shocked at the story. I loved my son, Christopher’s response to my review.
Yes, I saw it way back then, it was pretty hilarious. The REALLY funny thing is to come to my mother’s blog and see her reviewing Fast Times. That made me chuckle! I guess it has become a literary classic over the last 25 years … Next thing you know she’ll be getting a tattoo and a belly button piercing or something …
No, no tatoos or belly piercings. Those things are associated with pain.
- I’ve been paying attention to this week’s ruling by the FTC about blooggers accepting free books and also linking to Amazon or other retailers. I just can’t get too upset about it, maybe because I’m naive? I’ve been linking to Amazon with all my book reviews for four months now and I’m up to $1.04. Most of the books I’ve received from publishers or authors I’ve donated to the library or given away to others. Someone is going to have to convince me with some serious logic and legal arguments in order for this small time retired lady to change her ways.
I’m looking forward to the coming few months. We will be with family again and we have some special events in the works. We will stop and spend more time reading, watching movies, playing games and talking. All pleasant activities.
I hope all is well with you and yours and that you have some pleasant activities in the works too.

I love hearing about your travels. The Navajo Bread looks really yummy. That dish sounds like something I would eat.
I’ve never heard of Navajo tacos, but they sound yummy!
And if you do decide on a tatoo or piercing, I hope that you’ll share your experience with us in picutres
I felt the same about mountain roads when we were in Italy – so near the edge, I couldn’t bear to look. And tattoos and belly piercings are out too – why pay for pain! (I did succomb to having my ears pierced a few years ago – and it hurt).
I don’t think I’ll be joining the Read-a-thon, time is a bit short right now, but it sounds as though you’ll be having a great reading party.
Thanks for the updates! This seems like a perfect Saturday post, kind of like a good phone call with your friends & family. You should make this a semi-regular post. Oh, and count us in for the read-a-thon!
That bread looks yummy!!!
We are very familiar with Indian Fry Bread and tacos being in Tucson (Tohono O’odham tribe). Here is a link to a little history and recipe:

The best Navajo tacos in the world are in Tuba City, Arizona. Of course, I haven’t been there since 1975 — but I still dream of them.
I was going to give you a link to a Navajo bread recipe but rhapsodyinbooks beat me to it! You should definitely make it when you get a chance – it is very simple, and you already know it is delicious. My mom used to make it a lot when I was a kid.
I would have closed my eyes too if I had to go down a 11,000-ft mountain pass! Those Navajo tacos look very good – I think food and eating has got to be one of the best things about traveling.
I hope you’ll keep doing these chatty posts, Margot – I really enjoy them! I felt in a chatty mood today, too, but I’d already posted for the day and then I did my thing for the fitness challenge and suddenly, I was too exhausted to be chatty!
I enjoyed the peak into your world Margot – thanks for the snippets and I think your idea of a Read-A-Thon group effort with your family is great. And I too was interested in seeing the rulings about reporting goods received – not something we do but interesting to see it happening – shows the blog world is drawing a lot of attention, that’s for sure!
Not everyone reacts to Navajo tacos well. This past April, my husband and I took our niece, her two children and her partner up to the Grand Canyon. We stayed at the Cameron Trading Post overnight. They have an excellent restaurant there, and Denis and our niece, Suzanne, both had Navajo tacos. Later that night there seemed to be “gas leaks” on our rooms because those who hadn’t eaten the tacos had to escape out into the fresh air! LOL
Maybe you should get a full-color tattoo of the famous Najavo Taco; place it right above the belly ring, that should shock Christopher
Really, I’m hungry right now, and your description has me ready to get my guy grilling!
Hi Margot! What is up with receiving books and blogging? That’s interesting…
I really liked the chatty post. The tacos seem like a great idea. but then any solid food seems like a wonderful thing to me.
I’m so glad you will be reading for the read-a-thon. I am a reader too but have yet to make my list. I better get on that quick.
As for the FTC thing, I always stated the source of my books so I’m not too worried. I think it’s completely ridiculous to make an issue of this though. It sort of seems like bullying to me. The big FTC vs. the little blogger.
When getting a fresh diamond belly button ring, you can also ask the professional who is preforming the piercing about various complications.
