Favorite Places: The Gypsum Hills Byway

grand-tetons-barn-2wtmkSunday is the day I like to share with you some of the places we’ve visited in our travels. The last few weeks we have been way Off The Beaten Path. I love it when we do that. It gives us an opportunity to see the small towns and villages and the open country you don’t get on the inter-states.

Byway

Some friends suggested the Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway coming across southern Kansas. I’m so glad they did. This is the kind of beauty lovers of the land can appreciate.

SeeForeverIt’s the kind of area where you can see for miles.

RedDirtIf you get out and look closely, you’ll see the dirt is red.

HorsesThen you might also be surprised by passing cowgirls.

HrsLvgDon’t let anyone tell you that Kansas is all flatland.

GypHillsThere are plenty of hills and as much big sky as you can handle.

Yes, the sky really is that blue.

If you are looking on a map, the Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway is located in the south central part of Kansas. It runs from the town of Medicine Lodge until just before Dodge City. It is a unique beauty that won our hearts and made us add it to our list of Favorite Places.

I hope you’ll join me again next Sunday for another of our Favorite Places.
