I’ve gathered a few new (to-me) words from my reading this week. Here’s what I found:
1. solecisms: William found himself torn between benignly ignoring her solecisms and misinterpretations, or correcting them, which could lead to an edgy debate and a slight air of offence on Marcia’s part. (From Corduroy Mansions -chapter 2)
Solecisms means a grammatical mistake in speech or writing.
2. non sequitur: And she would often also resort to the mostg extraordinary non sequitur, as se did with this reference to the Chinese thing in centuries. (From Corduroy Mansions -chapter 2)
Non sequitur means a conclusion or statement that does not logically follow from the previous argument or statement. In the original Latin, literally ‘it does not follow.’
3. puerile: Riley glared at Agent Hamlin for a moment, and then rolled to eyes to convey just how puerile she found his tactics. (From Precession by Abigail Arrington)
Puerile means childishly silly and trivial.
4. obdurate: “We object,” Sam responded in an obdurate tone. (From Precession by Abigail Arrington)
Obdurate means stubbornly refusing to change one’s opinion or course of action.

Those are interesting words!!
Wow, you found a lot of great words this week and they’re all new to me. I hope you ignore the solecisms on my blog! Thanks for participating.
We have a comic strip in our newspaper named “Non Sequitur” so I’m glad to be reminded again of the meaning. Great list.
Fabulous words! Isn’t this a fun meme?
For once I kow all the words. I feel good..:D
Wondrous Words Wednesdays
I know several people who use an obdurate tone. Great words!
OOOH I like those words. I could see myself using obdurate, and puerile. I am going to have to make sure I am pronouncing them correctly first. But I like them.
Fun, fun words! Most of them are familiar to me, but I still like them! I always think of the comic by the same name (different spelling, I think) when I read non sequitur.
I didn’t know any of these words. Great words!
Hi Margot,
Great words today! My niece “puerile” all the time. But then again she is only 4 years old. I have four words at my place, Just Books. Have a great day!

I did not know what non sequitur meant! Thanks for sharing!
Solecisms, I’ve never seen or heard that word. Good pick.
I love the word “solecism.” I didn’t know it before, and I’m afraid it might be a self-fulfilling prophecy … will I remember to use it correctly?!?
