Wondrous Words #32

vocabularyThis fun weekly feature is sponsored by Kathy at Bermuda Onion’s Weblog. It’s time to gather together all those new words we’ve found this week.

I recently read Laced With Magic by Barbara Bretton. I posted my review today HERE. There were several words that came from a different world. This world is not a place I normally live in so I had to look up some of the words. Here are a few of the words all in one sentence:
“And that doesn’t count the trolls, selkies, goblins, sprites, spirits, and mountain giants who call our town home.”
1.  In this case a troll is a noun referring to a mythical, cave-dwelling being depicted in folklore as either a giant or a dwarf, typically having a very ugly appearance.
2.  A selkies is a mythical creature that resembles a seal in the water but assumes human form on land.
3.  A goblin is a mischievous, ugly, dwarflike creature of folklore.
4.  A sprite is an elf or fairy.

I think you get the picture of what some of the characters are like in this book.
