As you know my husband and I have been on a Road Trip since we retired. So a Literary Road Trip sounded like something right up my alley. The question of which state to choose was a little tough at first because I have lived in quite a few states in my long life.
But I had to choose KANSAS. It’s a state that still holds my heart. My husband was born and raised there, we both graduated from universities there, we were married there, I taught school there and our first child was born there. Yes, my heart is definitely in Kansas.
You are probably wondering what a Literary Road Trip is and how it works.
The Literary Road Trip is sponsored by Michelle at Galley Smith. It’s a project in which bloggers are volunteering to showcase local authors. This showcase can be anything you want to make of it – book reviews, author interviews, giveaways – as long as you’re working with an author local to you.
How it works:
- Stake your claim
Post a comment on Michelle’s blog HERE (if you haven’t already) and let Michelle know what State, territory, region, etc. you’d like to showcase on your blog. - Post content on your blog
Additional information can be found at the website. I hope you’ll join in and support your favorite area. This is not just for the United States. I noticed bloggers from Canada and Australia so far. So come on – let’s take a road trip.
I’m already on the hunt for Kansas authors. I have a few in mind - Don Coldsmith and Sara Paretsky are both Kansas natives. I’m hoping you might have some suggestions too.
Read any good Kansas authors lately?

Some of my favorites are from Kansas!
Langston Hughes
Richard Rhodes
Damon Runyon
and then you’ve got
William Inge
Gwendolyn Brooks
William Burroughs
I’m looking to hearing more about Kansas and its writers. We drove through Kansas on our way to Colorado a few years ago. That is the extent of my knowledge.
So glad you’re doing this. I’m really looking forward to your spotlights!
Welcome to the trip! I’m very excited you’ll be joining in. Please continue to update the Mr. Linky provided on the Literary Road Trip page on my blog to let us know you’ve posted content. I’ll add your links as part of my weekly Road Map to show everyone’s progress.
YAY! Welcome
I rarely know where authors are from, unless it’s stated on their book jackets. Aside from Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks, I don’t know if I’ve read any Kansas authors or not.
I look forward to your posts on the subject. I’m doing the Canadian province I live in, Ontario, for the project. I expect to learn a few things.
