The purpose of this weekly feature is to share some of the places we have visited. These are the places that stay with us for one reason or another.
This week’s Favorite Place is The Beach.
This joyfully retired person long ago gave up going to the beach just to see how many boys would notice me. In those ‘olden days’ we put iodine in our baby oil to help us get a better tan. Does anyone remember that? What that trick did was to get the sand to stick to our oily bodies. Ugh! Now on my occasional trips to the beach I’d rather watch what the rest of the world is doing.
On a recent beach trip we had the opportunity to watch some interesting boats pass right before us.

There were sailboats of all sizes, big and little motor boats, and even a little paddle boat powered like a bicycle. It was a warm breezy day with a gorgeous blue sky. We were near a naval station. We were there just in time to see a navy vessel come back into port.

I hope you have a chance to spend some time at a beach this summer. It may not be an ocean beach but a lake beach will do just fine. Enjoy the summer sun.

We love the beach too. We used to dream of living in a shack on the beach – I’m afraid even a shack there is too expensive for us these days.
Oh I would love to see some water! Living in the desert, you get to crave seeing it once in a while! Thanks for the vicarious cooling off from your pictures!
I love the beach. We tend to go off-season though.
We didn’t have sun on our recent beach visit. Lots more opportunities to come though.
My mom told me how when she was a teenager they used to take masking tape and spell out their boyfriend’s name on their back before lying out in the sun so they had their true love’s name emblazoned on them for all the world to see. I guess if you broke up you wore a shirt over your suit when you went to the beach.
lol I dont remember iodine…but I do remember putting the lemon juice in your hair to give you the sun streaked hair. OH and flipping over every 15 minutes…I think the radio anouncer would even tell you when your 15 minutes were up. Mostly I rembember jumping in the waves.
We did baby oil on the bodies (burn!) and lemon juice in the hair. LOL at Cerrin’s comment about the radio announcer telling you when to flip
Love the sailboat pics. What beach was this?
When on vacation I love to walk a few miles on the beach in the morning and before bed, but other than that, not so much.
