Some Books I Found On Blogs

Reading Book Blogs can be rough on your Books To Be Read List as well as your book budget. I’ve learned to be more disciplined with myself and that’s a good thing. There are, however, some books that just grab me and I have to have them. I want to share a couple of these grabbers with you in case you may have missed them.

stargazing1. Linda Gillard’s Stargazing. I first saw on Margaret’s blog, Books Please. I put it on my list. Then Jill at Rhapsody In Books read the book and reviewed it. (See her review HERE.) I was more determined than ever. The clincher came when Jill sponsored the author in a guest post. Linda was both honest and finny about how publishers and editors have biases against what type of heroines book buyers prefer. She prefers heroines that are like real women. She even had a rejection letter from a modern publisher/editor about Jane Eyre. Just read it. Here’s the guest post link: Rhapsody In Books.

blessed-is-the-busybody2. Stacy at Stacy’s Book Blog introduced me to a super series – Ministry is Murder. Stacy is quite the fan and they sounded like a lot of fun. Then Stacy did one of her “9 in ’09″ interviews with the author, Emilie Richards. Again, that did it for me. I have to read her books! It turns out Mrs. Richards has written over sixty books. I’m starting with the first book, Blessed Is The Busybody,  in the Ministry is Murder series. Emilie Richards is a minister’s wife so I have a hunch she writes from her experiences and that aught to be enjoyable. Mrs. Ridhard’s website is HERE.

How about you – have you found any compelling books lately?

  • I saw that book on Stacy’s blog too and thought it looked good. I’m going to check out Books Please right now.

  • These both look good. I saw the one from Stacy’s blog, but I somehow missed Star Gazing from Margaret’s. Thanks!

  • I remember Star Gazing because of the cover. Yesterday I checked to see if they had any of the Ministry series on cd – going on a trip tomorrow – but they didn’t ;(

  • I haven’t seen the Ministry is Murder series. That looks like something I would really like. I have also read two more books by Gillard (reviews coming up). Every book is very different from the other. Apparently, this gives publishers a headache because they want to promote her as a certain genre.

Anyway, I love the title “Blessed is the Busybody.” I’ll put that down on one of my little notepads all over that help make my house such a mess! Thanks for the book referrals and reference to my review!

So is the Ministry is Murder preachy or overly religious? I love trying out series…but tend to stay away from the overly religious stuff…

  • I agree with you … book blogging has caused my TBR pile to grow far beyond what I can reasonably expect to acquire!!! Thank goodness for the swap sites! I’m at the point where I have to see at least 3 things about a book to make me add it to the list! Otherwise, it is easy to get out of control! That said, “Stargazing” sounds really interesting … and the cover is lovely!

  • Hi Margot

Thanks for mentioning STAR GAZING on your blog. (I’m the author.) It’s interesting the way the cover gets mixed reactions. It was re-done at the eleventh hour and I was very disappointed when I saw the new one but readers seem to have really liked it. (Authors have no say in their covers, even if they hate them.)

Good luck with pruning the TBR list. I always say to readers, buying too many books is a *good* thing. Think of it as patronage of the arts. Authors need to eat. ;-)

  • Hi all, i just found this here after a fast google search. Nice site you have here! Keep it up!
