This is a weekly feature in which I share some of the places we have visited as we travel. Last week my very nice son, Christopher, drove my mother, Genevieve and I to Yosemite. I’ve been there many times over the last fifty years, but I don’t recall ever being there in the rain. It was absolutely stunning.
Christopher took this picture. I hope Ansel Adams is paying attention. Besides the rain and the mists, other things were different. There was considerable controlled burning taking place in the south end of the park. Lots of firemen with shovels could be seen along with the smoke. As we drove the road leading up to Glacier Point we saw patches of snow in among the trees, plus the last few blossoms on the dogwood trees. It made for an unusual but beautiful Spring combination.
My mother, who is 89, has entered the early stages of dementia. She has had a real longing to see Yosemite, a place that holds many happy memories for her. Unfortunately, she doesn’t remember being there in the last twenty years in spite of the fact that we’ve all taken her there numerous times. Other family members told us to be sure to take a picture of her while we were there. We hope it will remind her of this visit. Here is mom/grandmom, honestly, at Yosemite.

Join me next Sunday when we’ll look at another one of our Favorite Places. I’ll show you some pictures we took down at the beach, the Pacific beach, that is.

Wow! Impressive in several ways! Thanks for sharing that.
Love the picture of your mom – she looks so delighted to be there!
I’ve always wanted to go to Yosemite. Lovely. And your mother looks terrific. How wonderful that she could be there.
I wish I could go to Yosemite! My mother-in-law had dementia and no matter that she couldn’t remember she enjoyed her life living in the moment. Your mother looks as though she was loving being there.

Those photos are stunning. Your Mom looks SO happy and there’s a picture to remind her and you
Thanks for sharing.
I loved our visit to Yosemite in the spring with all the waterfalls roaring. Although your mother can’t remember being there previously, at least this return visit gave her a way to experience it all over again for the first time. There are a lot of things I wish I could go back and feel for the first time.
I wish I could have been there. I am excited to hear of all the places yor visiting now.
This is such a sweet post … but bittersweet too. It must be so hard for you and your mom to have her experience these losses of memories. Hopefully the photo will help her hang on to this memory. And what lovely photos!
