Look what I found

I’ve come across some interesting things recently and I thought I would share them with you. Before I do, I want to thank a couple of people. Jessica at The Blue Stocking Society told me how to take a picture of a web page. I had no idea you could do that! Unfortunately, it would only work on her pc and I have a mac. Then along comes my son who knew exactly what I was talking about and showed me how to do it on my mac. Thanks, Christopher and Jessica. Now here are some things I found:

1. Book Blog Guild

Speaking of Jessica, she is the genius behind a new group for book bloggers called the Book Blog Guild. “The goal of the Book Blog Guild is to bring book bloggers together in one forum to establish a community center, to solve problems, and to solidify our presence and force in the book industry.” It’s just getting off the ground so now is a good time to join.

2. Book A Day Blog

In 2008, there was a blogger whose mission/goal was to make something every single day in her crockpot and blog about it. I had the best time checking out her site to see what in the world she had come up with that day.

Now in 2009 I’ve found someone who is taking a different direction with the every day theme. Angie is reading one book every single day this year. And, they are not all easy books either. She reads AND reviews one book a day. Check out her blog  HERE.

3. Vibrant Nation

The mission of Vibrant Nation is to be a “place where women 50+ exchange information and join in smart conversation.” I’ve noticed all sorts of interesting topics on this website from good books to health to going green and so forth. They have a weekly newsletter also. Check them out HERE.

I hope you enjoy visiting these new-to-me sites. Have you had a chance to discover anything new this week?

  • I had to learn how to take a picture on the mac for Book Blog Guild as well, and then I went and changed my layout! Oh well. I guess I have the old pic for posterity. I am definitely going to check out the book a day blog.

  • M

Oh my word, I have not heard of any of these three sites and plan to check them out immediately!

I am not sure I know how to take a picture of a web page and embed in a post, so I might be asking you for some help :)

  • Hi Margot, will you share the Mac instructions? They are not in the FAQ at the Book Blog Guild site. It looks fun though and I’d like to do it!

  • Never mind, I found it: comand-control shift 3, right? It seems to work, albeit blurrily!

  • Cool sites — two were totally new to me. Thanks so much.

  • I should have included instruction for taking pictures in my post. Sorry. Here is how my son taught me:
    1. Hold down the button that has the apple on it.
    2. AND hold down the shift button and then the number 4 key. ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
    3. Your mouse tip turns into a different shape and you use it to outline the screen (or whatever part of the screen) and drag it and let go.
    4. Suddenly a little picture icon is on your desktop – mine said Picture 1.
    5. Then I just uploaded it into my blog post the same way I upload other pictures.

Thank you for sharing these. I am excited to find more book blogs at the Guild. Can you give the link for the crockpot blog if it still up? I love my crockpot and am always looking for new dishes to cook. A book a day…wow! I like that idea of challenging yourself to do something everyday for a whole year.

  • Thank you for sharing these links, Margot! Have a great weekend!

  • Is it even possible to read a book a day? How long would it take for your eyes to mutiny? I’ll have to check out the blog. Thanks, Margot!

  • I joined the Book Blog Guild (after trial and error of posting a photo of my blog page – :) — I think it is going to be a great resource!

I still need to check out the crock pot cooking website though.

In the meantime, I wanted to let you know that I gave you the “you don’t say” award today.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

  • Thanks for posting the instructions. The 4 key trick works even better than the 3 key trick!

  • I’ll have to look into taking a web page snapshot on the PC!

Thanks for sharing these sites with us – they all look great! A book read/reviewed each day is overwhelming to me!
