About two months ago I joined Library Thing. I have found it to be a great way to organize my books and my head. So far I’ve loaded about ninety books into my “library”. Once I have a book entered, Library Thing tells me how many other members have that book and, if available, it shows me short reviews of the book.
Wendi at Wendi’s Book Corner sponsors this meme every Tuesday that features various aspects of Library Thing – Tuesday Thingers. I haven’t joined in yet because I haven’t known any of the answers. Reading everyones answers each week has been a learning experience for me. Until this week!
Questions: Do you add your reviews to the books you add to your library? If so, do you put your full review on there, or a quick review (one – two paragraphs)? Do you find other people’s reviews helpful? Do you know of any other ways to enter your reviews (Other than Edit Book, or Quick Edit)?
About two weeks ago I wanted to add some reviews to accompany some of my books. I’d already put in a few of the cute green stars but no reviews. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading other reviews so I determined one night that I was going to add my own.
Hah! Not so fast! There is no instruction manual telling me how to do this, much less some cute little button that says “Add review here”. I think I looked at everything, even went through the “quick tour” and all.
Finally, I used my old trusty fall-back method – I started double clicking on various things. I double clicked someone else’s review of a book I wanted to review and -Bingo- it opened up a window for me to add my own review! After a few of those attempts I discovered that if I went to one of my books and clicked edit, it would allow me a spot to add a review. Now why didn’t I discover that first?
So far I’m adding reviews of books to Library Thing as I review them in my blog. Primarily I copy and paste with a bit of editing thrown in. Gradually I will go back and add a few reviews at a time until I have a review for all of the books I’ve loaded into Library Thing. And, as I go forward and add a book, I want to continue to add the reviews as well.
What about you? Are you a Library Thing member? Do you add reviews? How do you do it? For more info, visit Wendi at Wendi’s Book Corner. By the way, if you are looking for me on Library Thing, my name if Joyfull. See you there.

Yeah!! Isn’t it funny that they don’t have a huge button on there somewhere that says “Post Your Review!!”
I do the same thing that you do with the reviews – copy/paste, then edit a bit on occasion to take out the more personal remarks.

PS – Thanks again for posing the great question!!
When I started in Library Thing, I had the same problem! I think I wrote someone else and asked, to find out about the Edit button! But mostly I have gone in the other direction: adding reviews from LT to my blog, since I started the latter quite some time after the former. I also love checking reviews there after I have had what I am afraid is a peculiar reaction to a popular book, and then finding out a lot of others had the same reaction!
It took me a while to figure out how to add reviews on LT too.
Well, you are ahead of me! I still vacillate between LibraryThing and GoodReads as my online book catalog. I have yet to post a review on either site, mostly because I have a hard enough time posting reviews on my blog. I will have to experiment with the copy/paste/edit formula that you use.
not knowing the answer is no reason not to answer the Tuesday Thinger question. Gosh, if it were, I would be in trouble…lol
So far I’ve only added my blog reviews to LT books I received as an early reviewer. Someday maybe I’ll carve out a few minutes and start adding them all. I’ll add you as a friend
that sounds like a good idea. I didn’t answer today’s question because I’ve just discovered Library thing–and quite frankly learn new things about it as Wendi points them out. She’s a better guide for the site than the site!
Hi Margot,
After reading your review, I would love to read “Royal Blood.” I have entered a Jean Plaidy contest. I might not get to it. I entered too many challenges, no will power.:)
Your blog is so well organized. I wish my blog was so well put together. Anyway, just stopped by.
I add an abbreviated version of my blog review to LT, generally at the same time I post reviews on my blog. I don’t give a rating to books on my blog, but I do on LT. I agree, the process for adding reviews was not intuitive!
