And to celebrate I’m joining Katrina at Callapidder Days in her Spring Reading Thing 2009. This is not a challenge, it is a “thing”. Since reading books is my thing I decided to take this time to look at my book list and my challenges and do a little assessment.
Since this is my first year for book challenges, I was a little nervous about being able to do them all. I’ve spent the first three months of the year reading almost exclusively for challenges. I’m not complaining, but I do think I’ve been a little bit obsessive. So, for the Spring Reading Thing I’m going to lighten up and concentrate on treating myself to some of my favorite genres. Here is my list.
1. I do love good Romances.
- Historical Romance: A Room With a View by E.M. Forster
- Contemporary Romances: A Long Time Coming Sandra Brown and
- Glitter Baby by Susan Elby izabeth Phillips
2. A couple of Westerns:
- The Chili Queen by Sandra Dallas
- Down The Long Hills by Louis L’Amour
3. A Book on Faith:
- Keep A Quiet Heart by Elizabeth Elliot
4. A couple of good Food Books:
- The Art of Simple Food by Alice Waters
- Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Boudain
6. A couple of good Mysteries:
- The Cooking School Mystery by Virginia Rich and
- Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly
7. At least one new-to-me author
- John Dunning’s The Bookwoman’s Last Fling
8. And at least one New Literature – something just published in 2009
- The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister
I still have four more books to read in the Childhood Favourites Challenge which also ends on June 21 (Heidi, Charlotte’s Web, The Bobbsey Twins and Little Women). I’ll still keep reading for the challenges like the Agatha Christie and the Decades. I’m now ready to relax with my reading and just enjoy. Speaking of enjoyment, I hope it’s a nice Spring day where you are or a nice Fall day if you are “down under”. Here’s picture just taken this week here at my son’s house in California. Enjoy.

Great list!! You’ll love Kitchen Confidential. I read it when it first came out and Boudain was not widely known; I hope it still holds up.
I plan to post my Spring Challenge list tomorrow.
A “thing” rather than a “challenge” is a great idea. That’s a great and diverse list of books. The two I have read are both books I can happily recommend – The lincoln Lawyer is a great mystery and A Room With a View is a joy – have you seen the film?
Good luck!
Good list!
Great list! I like that childhood favorites challenge, it would be fun to revisit some old “friends.” Good luck and happy reading.
This sounds like a very relaxing “thing”! Thanks for mentioning The School of Essential Ingredients – I hadn’t heard of that but it sounds delicious & I’ve added it to my TBR list.
Great list – I love good romances myself!
Happy spring to you too:) I am intrigued by the bookwoman’s last fling title…have to check it out. I meant to put Strawberry Girl on my spring thing list, per your review, but I know I will get to it within the next couple of months. I have been a little obsessive with my challenges too but it’s a fun and wholesome kind of obsession (if that’s possible). Best of luck.
Oh your list looks like great fun! You’ll be having a good reading time, that’s for certain!
great list! Happy reading!
I’m having the same problem. I’m only doing 2 challenges right now, but I can’t seem to stop reading for them! Since I am not even close to finishing either one I need to take a break too. I love a good romance. I did enjoy A Room With a View. Have fun
Looks great, Margot, and I love how you decided to choose books in a variety of genres you enjoy! I’m a big fan of mysteries, too, and my husband has told me I should read some Michael Connelly. Also, I love Keep a Quiet Heart — great book! I’m not familiar with the other books on your list, but I hope you enjoy them all. Thank you so much for being part of the Spring Reading Thing!
Great variety on your list – happy reading!
Happy reading! I haven’t read A Room With A View in years–but I’m thinking a reread would be fun
Happy relaxed reading! I have wanted to read A Room With A View since seeing the movie.
Happy Spring! Your list looks great.Good luck and happy reading!
You’ve got all the bases covered with that list! I loved A Room With A View. Happy Spring!
Very nice blog. Enjoy the Spring Reading Thing Challenge.
I still have some left for the childhood reading challenge too.
Great list. I love the way you broke them up into the different genres.
Love your list, especially the faith and food books. I agree, it’s important to make time to read books in the genres you most enjoy. Thanks for sharing your titles
I loved all of the Cliff Janeway series, (The BookWomans Last Fling). I hope you enjoy them too!
I’ve not heard of some of those authors – may have to add them to my to-be-read list! Happy reading.
Hi Margot,
I have joined in on this Spring Thing. Have my post up. I also am reading one of your books you have listed. It sounds like it will be really good. John Dunning’s The Bookwoman’s Last Fling, thanks for heads up on this one! Have a great day!!
Sherrie
Awesome list of books, Margot. I enjoy Sandra Brown. Haven’t read L’Amour in forever. I really should read more of his books. Thanks for your comments on the Reading post. Don’t forget to get your Award. here
kitchen confidential was great, looks like you have a full list there, enjoy!
I read *The Brass Verdict* and loved it! I was told by several people that I should go back and read the other Mickey Haller / Harry Bosch books, so *The Lincoln Lawyer* is on my wish list.
Your titles remaining for the children’s classics are fantastic … some of my favorites!
Interesting list! I didn’t recognize a single title – that’s what makes this challenge such fun – new books! Good luck with all of it.
