“What’s the worst ‘best’ book you’ve ever read —
the one everyone says is so great, but you can’t figure out why?”
There are a couple that come to mind, both recent books. I know I’ll get hammered for this one but I really don’t like the Twilight books by Stephanie Meyers. I just don’t get the whole vampire thing. Too creepy. I like my heroes to be, well, heroes.
The other book everyone seems to like is Knit Two by Kate Jacobs. I read her Friday Night Knitting Club and found it completely engaging. To me the characters were real. Then I started in on her second book, Knit Two, and just couldn’t finish it. I saw an interview with Ms. Jacobs and really wanted to like the book but couldn’t.

I haven’t read either book. Twilight just doesn’t appeal and I don’t get the vampire thing either. I have got Friday Night Knitting Club – but haven’t read it yet, so I was interested in your comment on that and on Knit Two,which I haven’t got, and may not bother with.
I agree with the Twilight choice, though it’s not so much the vampires that bother me but the hero/heroine and fanfictiony writing
I’ve seen Friday Night Knitting Club on the shelves for quite a long time now but haven’t bothered to see what it’s about. I think I’ll have to now
Lol, another one going for Twilight, I thought about that…but even people who liked the book said the writing was crap.
Oh noes, what will I take…maybe I should just take Twilight too
I have not read either. So I can’t comment on those.

Well, I agree with you about Twilight but disagree on the vampire thing. I adore Sookie Stackhouse of the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris.
But then again, I love paranormal stories overall.

I just posted a review of Knit Two yesterday. Interesting reading your thoughts!
I haven’t tried the Twilight books, and I’ve not heard of Knit Two. That’s always disappointing when a second book doesn’t measure up to the first.
I have both those books in my TBR, but I do like vampire heroes. So, hopefully I will like Twilight when I finally get around to reading it.
I agree that the Twilight books are terrible but I still love paranormal fiction. The Sookie Stackhouse books are fantastic.
I wasn’t too wild about Twilight, either. The Friday Night Knitting Club was OK, but I didn’t like it enough to want to pick up Knit Two.
I haven’t even tried the Twilight books. We went to a family reunion last fall and I was talking to Carl’s 85 year old great-uncle who is a big reader. He told me he was reading the Twilight books because he “wanted to see what all the fuss was about.” He told me not to bother reading them unless I was desperate for a book and I’ve taken his advice.
I’ve not read Twilight, and I an totally uninterested in it. I’ve been wanting to read Friday Night Knitting Club, though.
I totally agree with the whole twilight thing… havent read the other two so cant comment.
Wow, I thought I would hate the Twilight series but then I borrowed the first book from a friend and read it in about 2 days or less I couldnt put it down…then I hunted all over for who had the second book that I could borrow. I finished all 4 in less then 2 weeks they were that engaging to me. lol I thought it could be a generational thing…but I have co-workers that are or have read them and loved them and we all range up to retirement age down to the 24 year olds.
For me it would be a movie…Forest gump…geesh I hated that movie. One of the few I would say I will NEVER willingly watch again. Love the resturant…hate the movie.
I have read a number of books simplay too find out why they were so popular but I have definitely drawn the line at Twilight and its sequels. I’m sorry that Knit Two was so disappointing – second book syndrome maybe!
Oh Hallelujah! Someone else who doesn’t “get” the vampire thing! What is this fascination? I liked Friday Night Knitting Club too. Actually, I was surprised I liked it as much as I did.
My BTT is here
I haven’t read the Twilight books either, but I’ve read enough about them on blogs that I don’t want to.
Hi Margot,
I haven’t read either of these books. I’m not into vampires or knitting. Have a great day!!

I started reading “Twilight” when I was stuck in a new york hotel room for a day with my sick son. I enjoyed it, but the writing wasn’t the best. I haven’t read the other book. My post is up here
I have The Friday Night Knitting Club on my list! I’m actually leading a book club featuring that title in April, so I’ll be getting to it soon.
Nice to know it’s enjoyable!
I love the Twilight series, though I admit that Meyer’s writing style leaves much to be desired! I just enjoyed the love story, I guess. I don’t know! They worked for me, haha. Though I definitely understand that they don’t work for everyone!
I really enjoyed Twilight! Maybe because I read them with my niece. Too bad the last book was so bad. But I can see that there is also a lot not to like.
Gotta say I’m with you on Twilight. I only read the first book and from what I’ve heard of the others, I’m glad I ditched the series after the first!
Totally agree about Twilight. And, I haven’t read Knit Two yet. I didn’t love The Friday Night Knitting Club, so I haven’t decided about the sequel.
Ha ha, the first two replies both say Twilight. I thought of another book a little quicker but Twilight would have certainly been my second choice.
Mine had to be She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb. I had heard such great reviews about it but it hit the wall not long after starting it – couldn’t get into it at all.
