Assignment number four in the Blog Improvement Project was to concentrate on the basics. I felt that most of my basics were okay so I took advantage of the time to do somethings I’ve really been wanting to do for a while.
- I moved to a new server – my son’s. My address is the same, just without the word ‘wordpress’ in it. I will not bore you with all the details of the move but I will tell you it was very similar to moving to a new physical house. Just because I was sitting down doesn’t mean it wasn’t hours of work. I need to say Thank You, Christopher, for all the background magic he did.
- At this new home I am free to decorate to my own tastes. For instance, I’m sure you noticed my header picture. It’s the same picture but now you can see the open road – the open road which reflects my style of living.
- I updated my “About Me” Page to include more information about my family and links to previous posts featuring them.
- I added a Page for Favorite Places so I could catalog previous posts on the subject. And I added a Page titled Photos to answer the question, “Where did I take the picture used in my header?” (Answer: Alaska)
- I added the subscription link for either RSS or email subscriptions. Feel free to join in.
- I updated my Blogroll. Or at least I got a good start on it. If your blog is not on there, please send me an email and I will get that corrected.
That’s it for now. You know how it feels when you move into a new place. You’re exhausted, sitting on one of the boxes and looking around at your new home. Your brain is whirring with ideas about all the things you want to do. [Oh yes, I have lists.] But I’ve cleared off a couple of chairs. Come on in and sit a while and let’s visit.

Congratulations! I love your new site! It looks so clean and well organised – well done – have a nice rest – you deserve it!
I’m so impressed that you’re self hosted now.
Wow!!! Look so great. I love what you’ve done. Now I’m going to have to think about moving myself one day — maybe in the summer when I’m less busy.
Way to go! I am going to be self-hosted soon, I’m just being lazy about it because it’s going to be some work. Oh well though, soon. I am way impressed with all your improvements, the site looks great!
Congratulations – I hope you will be happy in your new home!
It is great to have such talented family memebers.
I like the layout of this site. good job.
Self-hosting gives you so much more flexibility. Anyone who thinks they might *ever* want to self-host should do it now (it gets more involved the bigger your blog and the more links you have, right Margo?)
Yay to children who can be such a help … something I can look forward to
I love the index/tab pages with your Favorite Places. I added an Author Interview tab so folks can get right to those, too. My BIP wrap-up for this week is here.
Margot, I’m very informal … I’ll clear off a chair or stand around the kitchen if it means a nice visit with good conversation!
