I think it’s fascinating that the women are more of an afterthought than main characters in this book. They obviously had a very important role to play in the success of western American expansion.

One of the first adult novels I remember reading was a Western called, “Mary Dove”. I’ve been trying to get my hands on a copy for years *sigh*.
